Music Ministries
LPC has a number of different ensembles for instrumentalists and vocalists. We realize that the Columbia area is home to a variety of musical styles and tastes and we want to provide opportunities to engage a variety of musicians within a local church community. Membership at LPC is NOT a requirement to participate in our musical ensembles and we enjoy having musicians from the Columbia area join us. Take a look below to see where you can serve and contact Tim Nicholson (803.359.9501 x105) for more information on any of our musical opportunities.LPC Choir
The LPC Adult choir meets weekly at 7:30 on Wednesday evenings to rehearse and sings every other week during Sunday morning services. The choir also presents one or two musical events during the year. The choir sings a variety of music including traditional gospel and spirituals, sacred anthems and selections from the standard classical choral repertoire. Neither audition or previous singing experience is required to join.
Worship Ensembles
LPC uses a rotation of musicians and vocalists in Sunday morning services. We expect musicians to be confident learning music on their own and to be competent performers with a group of professional and high-level amateur musicians. The worship ensembles play a variety of music including Indelible Grace, CCM, traditional hymns, gospel, etc.
String Quartet
One of the newer ensembles at LPC is a string quartet that performs several times throughout the year. This ensemble of students and amateur musicians performs both classical music and professional arrangements of traditional hymn tunes. Rehearsals and performances are on an ad hoc basis. Jazz Worship Band
If you are a competent jazz musician looking for an opportunity to play then we'd like to invite you to be a part of our Jazz ensemble. This is a rhythm section, plus a sax and a couple other instruments for a total of 5 or 6 musicians. Non-traditional jazz instruments (cello, violin, etc.) are welcome to play! This group plays every few months and leads most of the music in a given service. Some of the arrangements feature short improv soloing.Folk Worship Band
Much of the music we sing at LPC has roots in American folk music or has ties to an American folk sound (i.e. Indelible Grace, Bifrost Arts, traditional American hymns, etc.). Our folk ensemble is a group of musicians (guitar, banjo, mandolin, etc.) that focuses on traditional American music and occasionally leads worship and special events. Orchestra
At Christmas and Easter LPC uses a small orchestra (10-20 musicians) to enhance our services. These ensembles tend to be a blend of musicians from high-school students through professional musicians, so we expect a high level of musicianship from all participants. Rehearsals are held once or twice before the service. This is the easiest way to jump in and serve by playing your instrument.
Children's Handbells
Our handbell ensemble prepares and performs music for special events during the Christmas season. Recruiting and rehearsals gear up in the Fall. A/V team
The LPC A/V team is responsible for audio during services and special events, recording, video presentations, PowerPoint during services and any audio or visual challenges we encounter. If you lean more towards the technical side of music we would love to train you and let you serve in a support role during our services. What We Do
